– A Woman’s Place (AWP) and the Buckingham Friends School (BFS) will join forces for the Race to Empower. This year’s event will be a unique afternoon trek through the hills and woods of BFS’ beautiful 44 acre campus, located at 5684 York Road in Lahaska, PA. Participants in the Saturday, October 17 event may choose between a 5K Trail Run or 1-Mile Fun Walk.
The race’s purpose is to raise funds and awareness for AWP, the only domestic violence organization serving Bucks County. “The Race to Empower provides an opportunity to take strides that help build a flourishing community,” said AWP’s Public Advocacy Director Heather S. Giampapa. “It’s a family-friendly event that brings together people of all ages… a great way to take action. By taking part, you help empower women and make Bucks County a safer community for everyone.”
“I was impressed with the support and care that A Woman’s Place offers,” said the 2014 top men’s runner Matt Wolf. “When I discovered that AWP would be holding a 5K race, I decided that participating would be my small way of supporting a very worthwhile cause.”
The Race to Empower 5K Run and 1-Mile Fun Walk is open to all ages. Online registration is available now at www.awomansplace.org. Check-In, Sponsor Expo, and entertainment begins at 3:00 p.m. The 5K race will begin promptly at 4:00 p.m., and the 1-mile walk will begin at 4:15 p.m. Souvenir t-shirts and race bags are provided for registered participants and cash prizes will be presented immediately following the conclusion of the race. Lively music and refreshments will ensure a terrific time for all.
“A Woman’s Place was there for me,” said one client. [They] gave me hope. Hope that I could be free again. That I could learn how to break the cycle of violence. That I could be a whole person, and love, and have a wonderful family. So thank you to AWP. They saved my life.”
